The World Bank has warned that high poverty, deep income inequality, and a worsening jobs crisis are undermining Botswana's long-term growth prospects and threatening its ambitions to become a more inclusive upper-middle-income economy. The bank argues that persistent poverty and one of the world's highest levels of inequality have become structural barriers to sustainable development.

Botswana Oil's Francistown fuel depot expansion is at 88 percent progress against a projected 97 percent by August 2026, running behind the original October 2026 completion target set when the P1.1 billion project began in October 2022. Phase one, comprising road loading and off-loading gantry, has been operational since 2024.
