Botswana electricity imports may decline as local generation surges
Botswana's local electricity production surged 72.8 percent in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, driven by higher output from Morupule A and B power plants and solar facilities. The increase suggests the country's costly reliance on imported power may ease, following years of steep import bills that reached P1.7 billion in 2024.
