Prescribed fire burning reduces wildfires, generates carbon credits
Prescribed early fire burning, introduced to Pandamatenga and Lesoma in 2021 through partnership with Australian company MAKI Planet Systems and the Department of Forestry and Range Resources, has reduced accumulated vegetation and prevented high-emission wildfires while extracting 45,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere and generating certified carbon credits. The system is projected to net the Chobe community roughly US$300,000 (approximately P4 million) per year.
